Sights and Sounds of Lost River
Lost River Cave is a place that is easily missed if you are not looking for it. It is on the Main highway through Bowling Green, KY on 31-W. It is a place that nature is in the middle of a city and a great place to walk the nature trails and go into the cave. It will be an interesting cave to enter when the water level dies down where you can take a boat trip into it. Still, it is a peaceful place from the busy streets above.
When you walk the trails, you can see what history almost forgot. It has been an place where both the North and South troops camped during the Civil War. Jesse James hid in the cave after robbing the bank thirty miles away. It has been home to a mill where people came to make their breads and other fancies. What I mean a lot of moonshiners hit in the cage to make their moonshine away from the law. In the 1940s clubs opened inside the cave to dances almost every night during World War II and beyond. Today the dance floor has been restored and is used for various events throughout the year.
Today, Lost River Cave has been made a historical park, but it is also owned by a nonprofit. Which has many attractions for kids of all ages to enjoy. During the spring and summer months there a zip line, butterflies roam the area, and other natural attractions. During the springtime there also reenactments that happened in the area. What pacifically the Civil War V-neck transfer your north and south battle each other in the area. Along with encampment to show what life was like during the Civil War.
Lost River Cave has been an attraction for a while. But back in the 80’’s and 90’s it was almost destroyed by illegal jumping and other practices. Local people came together to save it and make it what it is today and is still being protected. If you ever get a chance to visit during the spring and summertime it is highly suggested to do so by many people at the community. It’s pride of Warren County in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
