Image belongs to Cloud Imperium Games IP With spending a large sum of money on a game, you can earn the title of Whale. No, we aren’t talking about the animal called a Whale. A Whale can mean many this to many people. Venturebeat.com define a Whale as the biggest spenders, they make up a tiny group (think about 2 percent of audiences) that drives most of the revenue for publishers of these games. But the word “whale” isn’t a flattering term, and neither are the numbers associated with it. These are people, not just customers.
We sat down with two Whales of Star Citizen. Their names are Kai and IronClaw. They both join started their investments around the same time of 2015ish.
Kai said, “The reason I got into Star Citizen was I was looking for a space science fiction game. I saw many games, but Star Citizen caught my attention and never stopped investing.”
IronClaw added, “I was manly the same way. It caught my attention also while playing other Space Sims and what Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) was trying to do made me want more.”
After talking to these two, they explained to me they have probably spent more than enough to buy a descent size house. For those who spend this much, some of my called them crazy. Kai even agreed that he may be a little.

IronClaw said, “We may be a couple of a part of a small group of Whales in the funding Star Citizen. The biggest investors are those who may invest $100 to $200 into the game. They out match us whales by the hundreds of thousands. "
The passion of the 3.6 million players Star Citizen players has given Whales a reason to investigate the game, and regular game investors of $100 or less help make Star Citizen because of CIG method if funding is through crowdfunding. It has raised over 440 million dollars. It's amazing coming from a company that is crowdfunded.
Star Citizen is made possible because of the continuing developing of the game for the last ten years. CIG keeps the excitement up and where thing can be possible to go. Where it will lead into the future is only time will tell. Whales will continue to invest their money, but the bulk of the investments come from the regular player.
