Ever since Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) was formed in 2012 and started the two projects known as Star Citizen and Squadron 42; they have grown through an unusual format. CIG has used the format of Crowdfunding as the way to grow their games and company. There has come from what they call the Community. Inside this community, there are 3,332,638 members. Within them, there are groups called Player Organizations (Orgs).

Brewn Shaw of the United Armistice Association (UAA) sat down with Geek Citizens News to talk about what Organizations are. “Well, organizations are like most MMORPGs, a lot of them might have guilds or teams. Organizations are Star Citizens version guilds, where the community a group of people who usually have common goal, common interest, and want to work together. Usually, to help each other out like organizing and other services. It can be anything from a small group of friends that won’t be able to keep in touch with each any other way, or a way a sizeable group to coordinate activities.”

There are 60,528 Organization within Star Citizen. Of those, there are many types of division within them. The image below shows the different type of commitment Orgs are looking for, Role playing preference, Sizes of the Orgs, Archetypes of the Org, and type of Activities they do.

CIG has been heavily involved in supporting the organization as well. With content to do in game and CIG staff have shown to what gamers call, “In Real Life events.” A good example is what the community calls Bar Citizen. Bar Citizen is a general term for any meetup of Star Citizen, that is run by the fans, for the fans. With the wholehearted support of CIG.

Brewen adds about the support of CIG at real life events, “Actually. CIG has been a fixture in real life for the community. They have shown up and had drinks with us when we have hosted events. A few years ago, staff members of CIG came to an event we were having during CitizenCon. Where the UAA went miniature golfing. CIG commitment to the community is some of the best fan centered company. CIG has taken some steps to even place some of the organizations in Star Citizen have even made it into the lore of the Star Citizen Universe.”

CIG has made it their mission to support Orgs in any way they can. From special events for big Orgs to take part in special missions to test the system, to recognizing each Orgs that they can do their website and Twitter feed. They are doing things that other games companies have not. Because they would not exist and grow if it wasn’t for the crowdfunding that the players and fans of their games contribute constantly. This is what makes Cloud Imperium Games, and the player base Organizations special in the gaming world.

Another great part of the Community is debate among it. It can be a healthy for the game and the community. The most recent debate has been on the new MISC Odyssey. If it is a Carrak killer.

The debate started recently when Paul Jones, Art Director of Star Citizen and Squadron 42 at CIG said in November during CIG produced show, “Inside Star Citizen, “In my mind, The MISC Odyssey is a Carrack killer. What you can do with it is pretty impressive. It’s kind of like the multitool of the spaceship world.”

John Crew, Chief Vehicle Designer at CIG added, “It just gives you almost the ultimate flexibility on how you want to play. The MISC Odyssey is the ultimate exploration ship.” More on this to come soon.
