Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) in October held the 2951 International Aerospace Expo (IAE). Where they released a new concept ship called the MISC Odyssey.
Last year I wrote about this in a blog post. There are rumors it will be the Anvil Carrack killer. Is it true? That is what us at Seanchaí Geek Media seek to figure out for you, our readers.
The controversy was started when Paul Jones, Art Director of Star Citizen and Squadron 42 at CIG said in November during CIG produced show, “Inside Star Citizen, “In my mind, The MISC Odyssey is a Carrack killer. What you can do with it is pretty impressive. It’s kind of like the multitool of the spaceship world.”
John Crew, Chief Vehicle Designer at CIG added, “It just gives you almost the ultimate flexibility on how you want to play. The MISC Odyssey is the ultimate exploration ship.”
In the video above, Paul Jones tries explaining his comments on the Odyssey being a Carrack Killed.
The MISC Odyssey has the new ship feel to whet the appetites of Star Citizen players. It has many features that the Anvil Carrack doesn’t have, but the Anvil Carrack has features that the MISC Odyssey don’t have as well. So, it could be a hard choice for the explorer players of Star Citizen to decide which to own.

Anvil Carrack
In lore, the Anvil Carrack was originally a military exclusive ship but is now available as a civilian market. It features reinforced fuel tanks for a long duration flight. It also features an advance jump drive and a dedicated computer for jump charting operations. The Carrack’s onboard features for the crew that includes medical with a class two bed, mapping oriented sensor suite, and a repair facility with drones to repair the ship.
Components
Components wise the Carrack is a decent ship. Its avionic consist has three medium computers and two large radars. Its systems comprise two large coolers, one large power plant, and two large shields. For the Carrack’s propulsion system, it has two hydrogen large fuel tanks, two large fuel intakes, two large quantum fuel tanks, one large jump drive, and one large quantum drive with a TBD backup quantum drive. The Carrack’s thrusters comprise four main thrusters, two retro thrusters, four VTOL thrusters, and twelve maneuvering thrusters. They also armed the Carrack to the teeth; with three size four manned turrets and one size four remote turret.
It can transport and/or store supplies up to 456 SCU. It can comfortably handle a minimum crew of four and a maximum crew of six. Which will make the journey to unknown places of interests. The fuel, food, and water it carries will limit its time out.

MISC Odyssey
In lore, the MISC Odyssey is the most advanced and complex exploration ship available to the civilian market; to survey most distant frontiers and explore the furthest reaches of space. The MISC Odyssey is supremely self-sufficient. The Odyssey comes standard with an onboard refinery, with built in mining tech of a size two mining laser and tractor beam, expansive capacity for supplies, and a hanger capable of holding a small spaceship with the rest of the ship built around the hanger.. It also has the accommodations for a crew of a minimum of one up to a maximum crew of six.
Components
Components wise, the Odyssey is an amazing ship. Its avionic consist has four medium computers and one large radar. Its systems comprise one capital coolers, one capital power plant, and one capital shield. For the Odyssey’s propulsion system, it has two hydrogen large fuel tanks, two large fuel intakes, two large quantum fuel tanks, one large jump drive, and one large quantum drive. The Odyssey’s thrusters are still to TBD currently. They also armed the Odyssey to the teeth; with as of now they armed it with three size five turrets. Two on the top and one on the bottom. It also has four racks of size three missiles.
It has the compacity to transport and/or store supplies up to 252 SCU. It can confrontable handle a minimum crew of one and up to maximum crew of six. Which will make the journey to new places interesting and only limited by the food and drink onboard. Since the crew can collect Hydrogen and Quantum fuel by mining and refining themseleves.
Will the MISC Odyssey be the Anvil Carrack Killer?
The question is where the members of the Verse think about the two ships. Will they melt their Carracks, not buy the Carrack, buy the Carrack instead of the Odyssey, or will they buy and use both? Let’s listen to the members of the Star Citizen verse.
Brewen Owens, Leader of the UAA Org. said, “From what information is so far available, I believe the Odyssey should replace the carrack for those exploring the out reaches of space away from Vanduul space. It’s ability to refine its own fuel makes it essential for long range exploration away from assistance. My understanding is it is less armored and gunned than the carrack; if true it should stay clear of hostile areas.”
GomabATL from SolCitizen Podcast added, “There will be pros/cons for both. So I believe that both will be well represented in the verse at release. Remember much of the Carrack's functionality is being locked in the hand-wavium 'modules' that have yet to be released. Until we know what those 'modules' will be, it is premature to declare either one a 'killer' of the other.”
Space Tomato from the Space Tomato Podcast said on this subject, “I don't believe the Odyssey is a Carrack killer. I believe no matter what CIG will allow these ships the features that let them standout in specific situations. While not every ship will be vastly different, they should all have a reason to exist for the player out there looking for that niche. For that reason, I don't think people should be making any decisions regarding the Carrack unless they aren't too attached to the concept of a shape. Not only is the ship not yet in-game, but we have also yet to see any substantial information released about it.”
If you believe what CIG is saying, the Anvil Carrack could be in trouble with new ship buys; at least people will be looking at the MISC Odyssey to add it to their fleets, and maybe trading their Carrack for the MISC Odyssey. The question is now is What the consumer will do? Will they buy the new ship, or will they buy the Carrack instead? What are your thoughts?
